Voluntary Home Buyout
About the Program​​

The Resilient SRQ Voluntary Buyout Program is designed to acquire properties impacted by Hurricane Ian (2022) and in flood-prone areas as a mitigation strategy. With $6,458,250 allocated to the program, it prioritizes low-to moderate-income (LMI) homeowners in repetitive loss areas who have limited recovery resources, helping to reduce future disaster risks while promoting resilience in Sarasota County.​

Selected Projects July 9, 2025

On Wednesday, July 9, the Sarasota County Commission convened at 1660 Ringling Blvd. to select and approve applications for the Resilient SRQ Voluntary Buyout Program. The following projects have been selected by the commission for acquisition.

Myakkahatchee Creek Parcel Acquisition, City of North Port
Approved: $954,000
This project is for the acquisition of two developed properties located within a low to moderate income census tract, flood zone and the Myakkahatchee Creek corridor. Once acquired, the existing structures will be demolished the land reverted to open space.

Myakka Drive Parcel Acquisition, Sarasota County
Approved: $338,300
This project is for the acquisition of one developed property located within unincorporated Sarasota County in the Venice area. This is a low-lying property, and the current owner has experienced repetitive loss claims since the purchase in 2021. Once acquired, the existing structure will be demolished and the area restored to natural space.
